French Polishing
This is a well-known wood polishing technique that results in a highly glossed, deep and tough finish. It consists of applying many thin coats of shellac. Shellac is a natural by-product of an insect that feeds on the “lac tree” found in India and Thailand. The amber resin is then dissolved in alcohol and applied using a soft pad. The process is time-consuming and repetitive with many layers of polish being applied until the desired effect is achieved.
We are able to undertake all tasks relating to pieces that have been French polished, from light cleaning and removal of marks and stains to re-polishing dining tables or other larger items of furniture
We can also undertake traditional hand finishes such as oil and wax polishing as well as modern spray finishes.
